  • pt: points — Standart Print format. equal to 1/72th of an inch.
  • em: ems — a scalable unit of the font size, Web format.

html: an un-styled broswers default font size is 16px (medium size).

note: screen pixel display between OS's [Windows, Mac, Linux] conform to different standarts. Windows uses 96DPI, Mac/linux uses 72DPI. Therefore, a 'screen inch' has fluxuation in the number of pixels displayed from a 'measured inch'. PX and EM produce consistant font rendering (between OS's and Broswer families [Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari/Chrome]). PT's are a real-world Printing measurment. Inches, centimeters & millimeters, never display on a monitor at true measured size—they appear smaller.
